Black & BIPOC · Culturally Grounded Care
Culturally grounded, trauma-informed therapy for Black and BIPOC folks. Your history, your family, your faith and your experiences with racism are part of the work, not something to leave at the door.
What's different here
The history, the family dynamics, the unspoken rules of the rooms you move through. You can start where you actually are.
Race-based stress and racial trauma are real, and they live in the body. You won't be told you're being too sensitive.
Family, faith, culture and community are resources, not just complications. We build on what has already carried you.
Who this is for
What we can work on
From single events to the slow, daily accumulation of microaggressions and vigilance.
The patterns, silences and survival strategies passed down before you had any say in them.
The cost of shifting between who you are and who a room expects you to be.
Being the only one, being overlooked, being overmonitored, and deciding what to do next.
Being the first, the provider, the translator or the one everyone calls, and what it takes from you.
Messages about skin, hair and bodies that started early and still echo.
Personal loss, community loss and the grief of watching it play out in the news, again.
Bring your faith into the room as a resource, or work through religious harm. Both are welcome.
How I work
Racial trauma isn't only a memory. It shows up in the body as vigilance, tension and exhaustion. EMDR and Brainspotting help process it at that level. Internal Family Systems helps us understand the parts of you that learned to stay guarded in spaces that weren't safe, and to let them rest where they can.
As a clinician of color, I don't need you to translate your experience for me. Just bring it.
At every intersection
Black and queer. BIPOC and neurodivergent. Black, kinky and poly. You shouldn't have to pick which part of you gets care today. Here, they show up together because they live together.
Ways to work together
No. Some people come specifically to work on racial trauma. Others just want a therapist who already understands the context while they work on something else. You decide.
Yes. Culturally grounded care means honoring your specific history, family and community, whatever they are.
Yes. I accept Arizona insurance through Headway and Alma, CHAMPVA in all six states, and reduced-fee care through Open Path Collective. I'm also a Loveland Foundation provider, which funds therapy for Black women and girls.
