What it can look like

Patterns that started before you

Things nobody talks about

Family secrets, unspoken rules and topics everyone knows to avoid.

Survival habits that stayed

Hypervigilance, scarcity thinking or never resting, learned in harder times and still running.

Emotions that weren't allowed

Growing up where crying, anger or needing help wasn't safe, and feeling that limit now.

Repeating cycles

Noticing yourself react, parent or partner in ways you promised yourself you wouldn't.

Roles you were handed

The caretaker, the peacekeeper or the one who made it out, and the weight that comes with it.

Loss across generations

The impact of displacement, migration, enslavement, colonization and family separation.

How we work on it

Understanding the story without blaming the people in it.

We look at your family history with compassion and honesty, naming what was passed down and what it protected. Internal Family Systems helps us meet the parts of you that took on burdens that were never yours to carry.

EMDR and Brainspotting help process the experiences that keep those patterns active, and somatic approaches help your body learn that the danger it was prepared for has passed. Your culture, faith and family strengths stay part of the picture.

At every intersection

Some of what you inherited was never named.

Families pass down messages about race, gender, sexuality, disability and who is allowed to need help. If you're queer, trans, neurodivergent or living differently than your family expected, those inheritances can feel especially heavy. You get to decide what fits who you are.

Questions people ask

Do I have to blame my family to do this work?

No. We can hold love and loyalty alongside honesty about what hurt. Understanding where patterns came from often brings more compassion, not less.

What if I don't know my family's full history?

That's common, especially when stories were lost or kept quiet. We work with what you know, what you feel and what shows up in your life now.

Is there help with cost?

Yes. I accept Arizona insurance through Headway and Alma, CHAMPVA in all six states, and reduced-fee care through Open Path Collective. I'm also a Loveland Foundation provider, which funds therapy for Black women and girls.
